Honigman Miller Schwartz & Cohn LLP
White Collar Criminal Defense
Virtually no aspect of today's complex business world is free from the potential for criminal investigation and prosecution. Potential sanctions exist regarding environmental problems, workplace regulations, and federal, state and local tax liability, to name just a few. When such problems occur, or there is concern for their potential, clients often turn to the experienced attorneys of the Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP White Collar Criminal Matters practice for advice and vigorous representation.
Our goal is to provide our clients with sound advice which anticipates and avoids criminal problems. For clients who are subjects or targets of criminal investigations, our objective is to avoid the filing of criminal charges which, even if later dismissed or judged untrue, can inflict irreparable injury. Where necessary, we have the resources to represent our clients vigorously in the trial and appellate aspects of federal and state prosecutions.
Our experienced attorneys provide counseling and assistance to clients in making important business decisions which have potential criminal law implications. We provide assistance in conducting internal corporate investigations of possible criminal or unethical activities and, where required or deemed appropriate, in dealing with federal and state law enforcement officials. We have significant experience in handling matters involving federal and state grand juries, as well as civil penalty and contract debarment issues which often arise after the conclusion of criminal investigations. In addition, we assist clients who became involved as victims of criminal activities at the hands of their employees and others.
We have represented our clients in white collar criminal matters in both federal and state courts in Michigan and elsewhere throughout the country.
As part of our complete commitment to our clients, our most successful representations in the white collar criminal field remain confidential. Generally, however, we represent individuals and businesses of all sizes and in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, environmental, retail, professional service firms and health care firms. In many cases, we have persuaded federal and state prosecutors not to pursue sanctions against our clients.
The White Collar Criminal Matter Practice is comprised of three attorneys and legal assistants located in our Detroit office. A former United States Attorney and several experienced former federal prosecutors are among the attorneys who provide representation to our clients. Distinguished professionals, our attorneys have many years of experience as practitioners, lecturers and authors in their fields. We also regularly call upon and receive the support of the firm's attorneys practicing in other departments, which enables us to respond to the varied legal needs of our clients. Biographical information and other credentials for attorneys of interest are provided separately in this packet.
