Beginning in June 1960, and continuing for the next 47 years, I have been deeply involved, committed and dedicated to the practice of family law, that is, counseling, representing and protecting rights and interests of Husbands, Wives, Mothers, Fathers and Minor Children, in negotiations, mediation, arbitration and trials in trial court and appellate levels.

The practice of law has been called a “jealous mistress,” it is.

Kenneth E. Prather, Sr., is a native Detroiter who began practicing law in 1960 after graduating from University of Detroit Law School. Ken has devoted his career to the practice of family law. He specializes in divorce law and trial work, representing countless clients who need expert legal advice in a complex field.

Ken’s experience includes negotiating settlements; mediation and trial work in child custody cases. He provides counseling on matters of alimony or spousal support, attorney’s fees and division of marital estate assets.

One of my most memorable experiences of my legal career was teaching Family Law at the University of Detroit Mercy Law School. For 17 years from 1983 – 2000, I taught Family Law at the University of Detroit Mercy Law School. I prepared for my students a 1,500+ page Family Law course book, which covered the theoretical and practical aspects of Family Law. The Family Law course book and course itself were prepared and dedicated in gratitude to the memory of certain deceased University of Detroit Mercy Law School Professors, Judges, Lawyers and other genuine and true human beings who touched my life.

During 47 years of practicing law in the Domestic Relations area, there is no doubt there our judicial system as awesome, powerful and as great as it is, that individual rights and Due Process of Law can be applied in inappropriate manner. Clients and lawyers may experience ignorance, insensitivity, and incompetence by Judges towards human beings. You must be represented by a lawyer who knows how to handle or cope with this type of problem.
